It isn't. Just the fugitive emissions from extraction, storage, and transmission activities (never mind things like flaring and venting) may contribute up to 50% of all GHG effects. The ratio of harm done to the atmosphere by methane compared to CO2 is about 70:1 on a per-mass basis. Even in the combustion step, while we don't get the sulfur compounds that coal gives us, we get boatloads of CO2 and nitrous oxides, which simply can't be captured in large amounts right now. Then added to that are the safety issues, thousands of people killed over the years, sometimes in a horrible manner. Yet the public just seems to shrug it off and buy into the "clean" storyline. It's really, really maddening that they do, and then turn around and say that nuclear is "dangerous" and "polluting". Sometimes I think it truly is a world gone mad.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10911751.post-19414029185904225212012-03-15T10:29:06.789-04:002012-03-15T10:29:06.789-04:00It's AMAZING to me how in commercials and the ...It's AMAZING to me how in commercials and the media that Natural Gas is no longer a FOSSIL FUEL or an evil Greenhouse gas!

James Greenidge
Queens NYjimwghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06964988758509076556noreply@blogger.com
